My dad linked me to the website of this really awesome artist, a Malaysian Muslim cartoonist named Sarah Joan Mokhtar.  I absolutely love her art!

Check out her website here: http://sarah-joan.blogspot.com/

By the way, if you know any Muslim cartoonists you’d like to recommend, (or if you are one) please let me know!

On a related note, I would like to meet some people who I can talk to about including Muslim characters in Sister Claire. I have some ideas, but I want to talk to someone about them before going ahead- if you are a Muslim reader of Sister Claire and wouldn’t mind proofing some of my ideas, please let me know. (Asks are now open.)

this is soo darling ahh

Y’know, Amber asked folks to Google “false equivalence,” but nobody ever actually did.

I shelve hundreds of those damn things every week. It’s the same issue - you might as well put good ‘ol Fabio in tights and give him a superhero mask. The guys on those covers are ridiculous, overmuscled, and frankly unattractive.  I’ve asked other ladies - they just laugh, and shake their heads. The women on those covers, I’d like to note, are usually svelte, sexy numbers with teeny waists and overflowing bosoms, barely contained by their corsets or regency gowns as they cling, hopelessly, dependently, to the bronzed, rippling abs of the men who are clearly supposed to be saving them from some unimaginable peril.
Do not even get me started on the newer paranormal romance covers.  Do.  Not.

Oh, the ones where the lady’s head is cut off at the neck and we have to look at her heaving cleavage, perfectly framed by tight, strained black leather? The ones which seldom, if ever, have a man on the cover? The ones which are designed to appeal, often as not, to the male gaze and the male dollar?
Yeah, let’s not get anyone started on that oh wait.

plus, every woman LOVES that shit, and in fact we all think that is basically good enough to make up for all the media thats not directed at us

Welp, sexism is solved, everybody. Let’s pack this shit up and go home.

Phew.

David Willis, Internet Famous cartoonist and all-around funny dude, took a hilarious swing (and not his first) at portrayals of male and female superheroes in this comic. Immediately, the comment thread turned into “but-but-but men are objectified toooooo” and some brave men and women saying “ugh, no, what is this sexist nonsense”. Though this situation has illustrated how far mainstream comics and geekdom have to come to be, you know, decent and morally acceptable, it was awesome to see not only the strip, but the very well-written, thoughtful comments from the women and men who fight the good fight.
David Willis, you are the Winner of the Day.

oh my god
oh my god
WON’T SOMEONE PLEASE JUST THINK OF THE STRAIGHT CIS MEN PLEASE JUST THEY ARE SO UNDERREPRESENTED IN SOCIETY

Lolita Mystique, by fogerness.
Raven would make such a pretty lolita, though I would love to design a shiro lolita look inspired by her classic white costume.
