Yue and Chang’e
Yue (月-yue- moon) is visually based on Chang’e, but their stories differ.

Chang’e 嫦娥 is the Chinese goddess of the Moon. Unlike many lunar deities in other cultures who personify the Moon, Chang’e only lives on the Moon. As the “woman on the Moon”, Chang’e could be considered the Chinese complement to the Western notion of a man in the Moon.
One version of Chang-e’s story: Chang’e and her husband Houyi were immortals living in ‘heaven’. One day, the ten sons of the Jade Emperor transformed into suns, causing the earth to scorch. The Jade Emperor summoned Houyi for help. Houyi, using his legendary archery skills, shot down nine of the sons, but spared one son to be the sun. The Jade Emperor was obviously not pleased with Houyi’s solution : nine of his sons were dead. As punishment, the Jade Emperor banished Houyi and Chang’e to live as mere mortals on earth. Chang’e felt miserable over her loss of immortality and Houyi decided to find the pill  of immortality so that they could be immortals again. Houyi brought the pill home and stored it in a case. He warned Chang’e not to open the case. Chang’e became too curious. She opened the case and found the pill just as Houyi was returning home.  Nervous that Houyi would catch her discovering the contents of the case, she accidentally swallowed the entire pill and started to float into the sky/heaven because of the overdose. Although Houyi wanted to shoot her in order to prevent her from floating further, he could not bear to aim the arrow at her. Chang’e kept on floating until she landed on the Moon.

Admiral Tinkle Tinkle: Jeong Jeong’s Wanted Poster
緝拿     琤琤    前烈火國艦長    年六十.白髮.    貌似柔順實長制火術    捕者慎之
WantedCheng ChengFormer Fire Nation AdmiralSixty years old. White hair.Appears harmless (but is a)Firebending Master. Approach with caution.
琤琤- Cheng Cheng - TINKLE TINKLEThis is NOT his real name. Note how the pronunciation does not even match his name. Also remember how Zuko’s wanted poster changes the spelling of his  name from 蘇科(resurrect rule/revived law) to 祖寇 (ancestor robber). Jeong Jeong’s name was changed, as was Zuko’s,to mock them. Personal opinion: As funny as Admiral Tinkle Tinkle is, I think Jeong Jeong’s real name is  most likely 煚煚 - Jiong Jiong - Fire Fire.

Zutara 10 Day Challenge | Day 03: Dream Team

Tell (and show!) us your dream cast for Zuko and Katara

Logan Lerman as Zuko & Kaya Scodelario as Katara

Tom Felton was runner up for Zuko because Draco and Zuko are the same character. I had a hard time picking someone for Katara, so I just decided to go with the person who came to mind first.

Someone just give Logan gold eye contacts and then put bronzing make-up on Kaya, and we’re good to go. And I think Logan and Kaya look good together soo…..

i would prefer a dark-skinned actress for katara but i like kaya so this is okay

No. I am really fucking sick of whitewashing everywhere, even in fancasts— you people just don’t know enough ethnically correct actors because you’ve never fucking BOTHERED TO LOOK.

I was kind of hoping that people in the Avatar fandom would be more aware of this subject after the extreme white-washing that went on with the live action movie.

Here’s a part of the example letter to Paramount from the “Aang Ain’t White” LJ community which perfectly explains why this kind of casting is wrong:

The Nickelodeon show “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” on which this film is based, featured Asian and Inuit characters in a fantasy setting inspired and informed by a variety of Asian and Inuit cultures. The characters fight with East Asian martial arts, have Asian or Inuit features, dress in Asian or Inuit clothing, and write with Chinese characters. The cast and setting were a refreshing departure from predominantly white American media, and were a large part of the show’s appeal as well as an inspiration to many Asian American children.

I am disappointed to read that the four actors selected to play the lead roles are all white. While the casting is not final, the statement has already been made: this film will take a culturally Asian and Inuit world and populate it with white actors. Orientalism this obvious and this dramatic is inexcusable, and I would urge Shyamalan and Paramount Pictures to reconsider their casting choices. Asian characters in a world built from Asian cultures should be played by Asian actors. ”

And here are some images from the show itself, also provided by Aang Ain’t White:

There really isn’t any way you can argue that these characters are white. Just sayin’…

first off, no one doubted that the characters were not of their OBVIOUS ETHNIC FUCK IT YOU TWAT!!!! second it was a fan OPINION for actors to play them. the post was not saying that they were any other race, it just pointed out that LOGAN LERMAN TOTALLY LOOKS LIKE ZUKO I MEAN OMG HE IS SOOOOOOO SMEXY!!!! gosh, and are people able to play another race? do you need to be french to play a french person? is it not racist to say that people can only play those of their race? who is really racist here? i think that she should be congratulated for thinking that people can transcend racial boundaries. this is just two characters here and to lynch this post because you love segregation is wrong. also i hated the movie, because there was nothing good about it, but it A: swapped races and didn’t whitewash everyone. there were still different people of different races (which is the important part). B: they added races in the earth kingdom if you actually looked for it.

I’m just going to leave this here for sensible people to laugh at.
